If you’re installing your adapter for the first time, or if your portable AC hose adapter has come loose or detached from the hose, these instructions will show you how to properly attach it.
Aircon Rescue adapters use the same style of threaded hose connection commonly used with manufacturer-supplied portable AC adapters. The adapter simply threads onto the spiral of the portable AC exhaust hose.
In most cases, attaching the adapter is quick and easy.
Start Here — Try This First
1. Fully Extend the End of the Hose
Fully extend the end of the exhaust hose where the adapter will be attached.
The hose needs to be extended so the spiral thread is properly spaced for the adapter.
2. Place the Adapter Over the Hose
Place the adapter squarely over the end of the hose and apply gentle pressure.
3. Turn the Adapter Counter-Clockwise — To the Left
This is the most important step.
Nearly all portable AC exhaust hoses we encounter have a counter-clockwise thread. This means you need to turn the adapter:
← COUNTER-CLOCKWISE / TO THE LEFT
A common mistake is trying to turn the adapter clockwise (to the right). If the adapter won’t catch the hose thread, make sure you’re turning it to the LEFT.
While applying gentle pressure, turn the adapter counter-clockwise until you feel it catch the spiral thread of the hose.
It may take a couple of tries to get the thread started.
4. Tighten the Adapter Firmly
Once the adapter catches the thread, continue turning it counter-clockwise until it is threaded firmly onto the hose.
Tighten the adapter as firmly as you can by hand so it is securely attached to the hose. The tighter you can get it, the better.
That’s it. In most cases, no trimming or other preparation is required.
If the Adapter Won't Go On
The Adapter Starts Threading but Suddenly Stops
Sometimes the adapter will catch the hose thread and begin threading normally, but then suddenly stop before it is far enough onto the hose to be secure.
If the adapter won’t turn any farther, don’t force it. The end of the plastic hose may be hitting the internal thread of the adapter.
Remove the adapter and trim the end of the hose as shown below.
Once trimmed, fully extend the hose again and reinstall the adapter by turning it counter-clockwise (to the left).
There Is Bare Wire at the End of the Hose
Many portable AC exhaust hoses have a wire running through the spiral of the hose.
If a piece of bare wire is sticking out at the end, it can interfere with the adapter and prevent it from threading on properly.
There are two easy ways to fix this:
Option 1 — Trim the Wire:
Using wire snips, carefully cut off the exposed wire as close to the end of the hose as possible.
Option 2 — Bend the Wire Back:
If you don’t have wire snips, use pliers to carefully bend the exposed wire back and out of the way, as shown below.
Once the wire is no longer sticking out, fully extend the end of the hose and try threading the adapter on again.
Now that the exposed wire has been fixed, simply follow the installation steps above to thread the adapter back onto the hose.
Plastic-Only Hoses (No Wire)
Some lower-cost exhaust hoses are made entirely from plastic and do not contain the reinforcing wire found in many manufacturer-supplied hoses.
These hoses can sometimes be a little more difficult to thread onto an adapter.
Start the same way: fully extend the end of the hose, place the adapter squarely over the end, apply gentle pressure and turn the adapter counter-clockwise (to the left) until the thread catches.
Continue turning until the adapter is firmly attached.
If it still will not thread on properly, inspect the end of the hose and trim the plastic as shown below, then try again.
